The THJA Board of Directors voted on these proposals at the October THJA meeting:

Proposal #1

Low/High Development Hunter Division (2’6 and 2’9)

Open to all horses in their 1st or 2nd year of showing over fences at Equestrian Canada recognized shows. Ponies are not permitted. Horses in this division may not cross enter into any other divisions requiring them to jump. Riders are permitted to enter any other division they are eligible for.

Proposal was voted down. Each zone had different opinions for voting no. The Northeast Zone proposed a motion to change the name to alleviate some confusion over the division’s purpose. The board of directors agreed to change the name to “Open 2’6/2’9 Hunter Division” for 2020. The zones are encouraged to add a green horse division if demand is there at the zone level.

Proposal #2

Modified Pony Hunter Division

Open to all ponies. Ponies will jump 3” below their regular pony hunter division height. Distances will be set on large pony step throughout the regular show reason and medium ponies will add one step, and small ponies will add two steps (minimum would be 5 strides). At the Championship Show all distances will be adjusted according to pony size as per EC Rules G306.6.A. Age restrictions as per EC Rules G306.1. Pony/rider combinations may not cross enter into any other classes or divisions requiring them to jump.

Small – Not to exceed 2’

Medium – Not to exceed 2’3”

Large – Not to exceed 2’6”

Proposal was voted down. The majority of the feedback on this item was that it simply wouldn’t be fair to the ponies to not adjust the distances appropriately and then ask them to show at those distances at the Championships. It would also give the large ponies (and older riders) an advantage over the smalls and mediums at all times. The division specs will remain as the same as in 2019.

Proposal #3

Trillium B and C Equitation

Trillium “B” and “C” Equitation Over Fences – Open to all riders who are of eligible age at the height they compete at, at the horse show.

Proposal was rejected as written. During the discussion on this proposal it became very evident that a change here would affect various other divisions that did not have their specs open for review in 2020. The proposal has been returned to the governance committee to review and will go to the zones again for discussion on what divisions will be effected and how we can adjust the equitation rules to be more inclusive if that is the original intention of the change.

MB Provincial Cup Final 01

Mad Barn Provincial Cup Proposal

The Trillium Hunter Jumper Association and Mad Barn are excited to announce the first ever Mad Barn Provincial Cup at the 2019 Trillium Championship Show! This new class will take on a similar format to a FEI Nations Cup class where each of the THJA Zones put forward a team to represent them and compete for a payout towards their zone banquet and zone activities. This new class aims to unite the zones in camaraderie at Trillium Championship Show and encourage team work amongst competitors.

Each of the seven zones will put forward a team of four members (representing the .90M, 1M and 1.10M jumper heights) and a chef d’equipe (team coach) to represent their zone at the Mad Barn Provincial Cup. Team selection will be based on zone points in the selected jumper divisions and will be updated throughout the season and displayed on the THJA website and social media. The chef d’equipe (team coach) will be selected by the zone executive before Trillium Championship Show and announced in conjunction with the team announcements the week before the show.

The winning zone will take home $1500, the second place zone will take home $1000 and the third place zone will take home $500. Mad Barn has also put together some fantastic prizes to accompany the zone bonus payments. More details to follow on those as the excitement about this new class builds this summer.

Good luck to all competitors!
